Rockwood Park

on October 30, 2013

Fall is finally here.  The nights are cool, we’ve seen frost on our yards in the mornings, but we’ve still been lucky enough to have mild enough days to get out and enjoy a neighborhood playground!  We recently visited a sweet little playground in Mt. Lebanon, Rockwood Park.

Rockwood Park

This playground was perfect  for my two kiddos to burn off some energy.  It’s small enough to have my 10 month old in the infant swing and still be able to spot my daughter as she climbs up the rock wall.  But it would certainly be big enough for a group of bigger kids to enjoy running around, too!

This playground features:

  • a play structure with steps, two styles of climbing walls, two slides
  • spinning monkey bars
  • a swing set, with two regular swings, an infant swing, and a swing for children with disabilities
  • a covered picnic area with a grill
  • a basketball court (off of Rockwood Ave, not pictured)

My thoughts on this playground:

  • My ten month old enjoyed this playground!  He could stay in the swing while I chased his sister around, since the swing set was very close to the play structure.  He was happy to watch his sister play and swing at the same time.  Plus, my toddler could swing next to him, which was a plus.  5 out of 5 stars from him.
  • My daughter loved this playground.  It was just right for her size and abilities.  She climbed the mountain-style rock wall without hesitation, and slid down to try the rock wall.  It took her a few attempts to master that wall…but, of course, she did!  She climbed up and slid down over and over and over again until it was time to go.  She never got bored, so I think she would give it 5 out of 5 stars, too.
  • I enjoyed the size of this playground, the layout of it, and the variety of features on the play structure.  It was great for my very little kids, but bigger kids would enjoy the play structure, too.  And for the biggest kids, the basketball court by the parking lot on Rockwood Ave would be a great escape.  I give this playground 5 out of 5 stars for being a perfect, nicely maintained, neighborhood playground.
